PAPYRUSMILL - Redevelopment of the old paper mill site and surronding area in Newton Kyme North Yorkshire

The Masterplan

Enhancing the surrounding area

In addition to the proposed new developments, a range of landscaping work would have been carried out to maintain and enhance the beauty and character of the surrounding area.

Work would have included:

  • Reserving the land currently used for the settling lagoons, next to the River Wharfe, for open space
  • The creation of a village green at the southern end of the new development linked to a series of green spaces throughout the scheme
  • Reinforcement of tree planting on the western and eastern boundaries of the site together with new planting belts within the scheme
  • The creation of a footpath from the viaduct to the A659 following the route of the former railway. This will also form part of the national cycle network, which would link York to Wetherby via Tadcaster
