PAPYRUSMILL - Redevelopment of the old paper mill site and surronding area in Newton Kyme North Yorkshire

Benefits to the community

Repair and renewal work

As part of the development proposals we intended to carry out repair work to the listed viaduct which crosses the River Wharfe.

In addition to repairing, and preserving this magnificent Stephenson creation using natural materials, we would have invested £1.5 million into providing the local community with access for pedestrian and cyclists to Thorp Arch Trading Estate and Wetherby.

We were also looking to renew the existing, privately owned foul sewer which serves Papyrus Villas. The sewer joins the public sewers in Thorp Arch Trading Estate and uses the viaduct to cross the river.

The intention had been to rebuild this sewer and associated pumping station to a sufficiently high standard so that it could be formally adopted by the water company.
