PAPYRUSMILL - Redevelopment of the old paper mill site and surronding area in Newton Kyme North Yorkshire

Current status: Application rejected

An Outline Planning Application for the Papyrus Mill redevelopment was submitted to Selby Council and rejected on 19th July 2006.

Overview of the proposal

The Outline Planning Application that was submitted for Papyrus Mill was for a high quality, mixed-use development comprising new homes, office space and substantial open space in a landscaped setting.

The proposed development will be on the site of the former Papyrus Works near Newton Kyme, North Yorkshire.

A planning application for the main development was submitted to Selby Council in August 2005 but was refused in July 2006. CEG is now considering submitting a revised application.

The site of the former Papyrus Works is currently derelict and any redevelopment on this land would dramatically enhance the aesthetics of the local environment.

Commercial Estates Group (CEG) is the company promoting the redevelopment. We have a track record of managing, investing in and developing property, and of turning derelict brownfield sites into productive use.

The Masterplan

The original masterplan for the Papyrus Mill project proposed a mixed development of homes and offices on the site of the old Papyrus Works, located next to Papyrus Villas and close to the picturesque village of Newton Kyme.

The proposed development would have included:

  • Up to 200, two and three story homes, creating a variety of property types catering for different income levels and needs
  • A courtyard of two and three story offices of up to 20,000 square feet, located at the entrance to the site. These could potentially provide jobs for up to 80 people
  • A range of formal and informal green spaces and landscaped areas throughout the development
  • The repair and opening of the Wharfe viaduct to provide pedestrian and cyclist access to Thorpe Arch Trading Estate and Wetherby
